I wanted to write about an American this week - Daniel Seddiqui. Daniel is 27 and became frustrated when he applied for over 40 jobs when he graduated and never got any of them! As a consequence he set himself the challenge of finding 50 jobs in 50 states across America and he started his quest in August 2008 - and he is now just about finishing! Added to this already difficult task, he aims to work in a field that reflects each state - so the work has to be relevant and connected.
He left college with $150,000 of debt, no job and nowhere to live but his life has changed drastically. Now, if you look him up on any of the web search engines you will see hundreds of pages dedicated to him, he has a massive following and many, many job offers - none of which he wants now because he has tasted freedom and he has also experienced being an entrepreneur.
He now knows what it is like to control his own destiny rather than being at the beck and call of an employer - he understands what it feels like to control his time and place of work.
I must say how impressed and in awe of this man I am - what an extraordinary task to undertake and I suspect this man will never be poor because he understands the fundamental truth of taking responsibility for himself and what he does. And he is prepared to get off his back side and do something.
So many people would have moaned and groaned about the lack of job and ended up doing very little - or even worse living off other people for years - but none of that for Daniel, who is now writing a book about the experience and has made about $60,000 into the bargain - most of which he still has.
Amazing guy - there is a lesson for us all in what he has achieved.
Furthermore, an extra benefit according to Daniel is that he is also dating as many women as he can along the way!
